Department of German Studies

The Department of German Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of MBU prepares future teachers of German as well as translators and interpreters who specialize in German. The department's teaching staff currently includes two foreign professors, four associate professors, ten PhD assistant lecturers and an Austrian lecturer from ÖAD (Österreichischer Austauschdienst – Austrian Agency for International Mobility and Cooperation in Education, Science and Research).

The Regional Centre for Further Education (Regionales Fortbildungszentrum), originally established in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and the Robert Bosch Foundation (Robert-Bosch-Stiftung), currently operates from the department. The centre organizes specialized courses for teachers of German as a foreign language and students of German studies. The department library is also a part of the centre.

The Department of German Studies is authorized to organize Austrian Language Diploma (ÖSD – Österreichisches Sprachdiplom) exams. It is currently the headquarters of the Society of the German Language Teachers and Germanists in Slovakia – SUNG.
