The settlement of Zvolen basin from the early Middle Ages to the 19th century

Project information

The project we deal with and its scientific outputs present the first systematic and complex view on the process of settling in Zvolenská kotlina (Zvolen Basin) from the Early Middle Ages to the middle of the 19th century. Thanks to archeological explorations and researches in recent years we managed to give new information about a resident network of this basin in the Early Middle Ages (6th/7th – 12th century). Exploring a medieval settlement (from the 13th to the beginning of the 16th century) we critically valued all known written mentions about the settlements of the basin. We completed them with so far unknown and never published information. New information allowed to revaluate so far known facts and to specify the period of establishing some settlements. Dealing with the settlement research in the Modern Times for the first time we focused a systematic attention to a diffused settlement in the south-east part of the basin. From this point of view the research of the basin can be consider as pioneering.
