Abstract
Teaching Italian for Economists: Objectives, Materials, and Output in the Academic Context
This article explores the didactic framework and outcomes of teaching Italian for specific purposes (LSP) within the field of economics, based on the academic experience at the University of Economics in Prague. The study focuses on three core aspects: the communicative objectives of the course, the current state of teaching materials, and the real competences acquired by students. Despite the growing importance of sector-specific language skills, there is a noticeable lack of updated textbooks and resources aligned with intermediate to advanced levels (B2–C1) of the CEFR. The research discusses the integration of economic, political, and legal content, as well as the necessity of developing intercultural and pragmatic abilities. It critically reviews several existing materials and emphasizes the need for modern, task-based teaching tools. The article concludes by highlighting the practical output of learners: their ability to operate autonomously in professional contexts, interpret documents, and participate effectively in oral and written business communication in Italian.
Keywords: Italian for specific purposes, business Italian, language teaching, teaching materials, CEFR B2, economic communication
