Department profile

The Department of Slavic Languages provides instruction in the Translation and Interpreting branch of study in the following programmes: Russian Language and Culture and Polish Language and Culture, both at the bachelor's and master's levels in day and external forms of study. We also provide the possibility of further professional growth by offering the PhDr. title, which students can earn after passing a viva voce examination and defending their thesis.

As of the 2013/2014 academic year, the Department of Slavic Languages offers also a new branch of study: Teaching of Academic Subjects (Russian Language).

The success of our students reflects the quality of the education we provide.

  • Marianna Bachledová – winner of the Translation Universiade 2013 in the category of literary translation (V. Pelevin’s short story Akiko),
  • Eva Removčíková – winner in an individual category of Polskie dyktando 2012, a contest organized by the Polish Institute for Slovak students of Polish in Bratislava.

The department’s contribution to contemporary scholarly knowledge in selected fields of study is evident in its members’ participation in research projects and other scholarly activities, some of which they have been awarded for.

  • Prof. Larisa A. Sugay, DrSc. was awarded the Rector's prize in 2012
